What is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a treatment for individuals who have difficulties managing intense emotions (sometimes called emotional dysregulation) such as anger, anxiety and impulsive behaviours. DBT is a cognitive behavioural therapy, meaning it focuses on the role of sabotaging thoughts and beliefs and problem behaviours. DBT aims to help specifically reduce the symptoms of Emotion Dysregulation by teaching individuals the skills they can use when faced triggering circumstances.
